Formerly known as Patard pharmacy, the pharmacy taken over by Mrs. Baelen has been reorganised and given a new image, and is now d'Aiseau pharmacy...
When Mrs. Baelen bought her pharmacy from Mrs. Patard, she already had in mind a new space that would better meet the needs of her customers. The layout had to be completely redesigned and enlarged, largely thanks to the use of part of the building previously used as the former owner’s home.
A peek behind the scenes: how to deal with the complexities of this overhaul...
The first major objective for our architects was to successfully create one single space from the two parts of the building (the pharmacy area and the living area) while opening up as much of the space as possible to accommodate the new pharmacy.
Rearranging the space
Old building means major structural changes were required to open up the space.
As a saving space idea, the central stairwell was closed to make way for a new entrance to the cellar, recreated in the future lab. This is just one example.
The new layout meant that the patient section of the pharmacy could be located at the front of the building, with the back-office at the rear (lab, robot, storage area and out-of-hours room).
Another challenge was to successfully install a robot on the ground floor in this particular configuration.
The perfect layout without compromising on style...
Despite its small space of less than 70 m², the pharmacy is well organised, very bright and radiates a warm personality.
The use of natural light, contrasting colours and materials and the choice of furnishings naturally create a feeling of space and well-being.

Optimising the store’s flow
The central entrance and the small size of the space complicated the store’s flow. In order to guide and encourage people to visit, our architects created a warm, light-filled area to the right of the entrance, decorated with ceiling slats. This layout prevents patients from going straight to the counters to the left of the entrance.
The pharmacy's exterior, especially the beautiful central wooden door, has been preserved. The automatic lock has therefore been placed inside the pharmacy. Mrs. Baelen is very committed to ensuring her patients are at ease, and wanted to provide them with an intimate space, reserved for home care and cleverly equipped with sliding doors to ensure greater privacy.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Baelen and her team for their trust, inclusiveness and cooperation throughout the project.
